Charlie Caftan Closet Core Patterns: Review
Charlie Caftan Closet Core Patterns: Review
This pattern was a big tick from me. The instructions were clear and the construction was generally straightforward. The most challenging section was the front panel which did require lots of slowly reading the instructions aloud, but I was pleased enough with the result. It wasn’t 100% perfect but the patterned fabric hides this well.
This is definitely a dress to repeat in other fabrics, and the different versions (two short versions one with a pleated front and one with a gathered front). I used a floaty but stable cotton lawn but you could use all sorts of light to mid-weight wovens. I have seen a lovely version in double gauze, and would love a mini version in our washed linen.
Pattern: Closet Core Patterns Charlie Caftan
Version: View C: Maxi with gathered front and tie waist.
Fabric: Textured cotton lawn (now discontinued)
Size: I measure Bust 33.5”, Waist 30”, Hip 39”, Height 5’5”. I made the size 8.
Adjustments: No adjustments!
Notes on construction: The trickiest bit was the front panel which is constructed a bit like a welt pocket. This area required maximum concentration, but the rest was fairly straightforward.
Notes on future makes: I made two notes: Finish the side seams before sewing up. I have an overlocker so would have done it that way. And take extra care matching the pockets on the side seams.
