We are excited to announce the arrival of Closet Case Patterns’ newest design, the Morgan Boyfriend Jeans. Following the astoundingly successful UK launch of Closet Case’s Ginger Skinny Jeans last December, this latest jeans pattern is the result of demand from Closet Case followers - an on-trend but classic design that can be dressed down or up, with Closet Case Patterns’ trademark instructions that will help even a novice sewist create her own pair of jeans. I asked Heather Lou, founder and designer of Closet Case Patterns, to introduce the new pattern to us: [caption id="attachment_1228" align="alignright" width="630"]Closet Case Patterns Designer and Founder Heather Lou Closet Case Patterns Designer and Founder Heather Lou[/caption] What was the rationale/inspiration behind this second pattern for jeans? Heather: I am mostly inspired by what I see real women wearing on the streets, and I started noticing so many stylish women rocking relaxed boyfriend jeans everywhere I went. It was a really refreshing change from the skinny jeans we've been wearing for so long! I was also getting many, many requests from my customers for advice on making Ginger with non stretch denim, and for a non-stretch denim pattern in general, so it was a no-brainer to start working on Morgan. The pattern itself is a completely different draft than my previous jeans pattern; the cut is inspired by the classic silhouette of the 501, but designed with women's curves in mind. Its a boyfriend jean that actually looks good on girlfriends. What are your favourite pairs of Morgan that have been made up so far, either by you, a tester or by one of your followers? Heather: There have been so many great Morgan jeans so far! My absolute favourite was of course made by the pattern namesake, Morgan of Crab & Bee (see her blog here).  She did a really cool exposed buttton fly detail I am totally going to copy. I've also loved the super oversized and handpainted Morgan that Michelle of That Black Chic made for her daughter (see her blog here). There are also lots of great ones on Instagram already which you can find using the hashtag #morganjeans. What advice could you give Backstitch sewists when embarking on their first jean-making project? Heather: Makers tend to put a lot of pressure on themselves to do things "perfectly" and we can be really hard on ourselves when we don't live up to our extremely high expectations. I think this stops us from both enjoying the learning process and letting ourselves be proud of the things we've made. Even if your first pair isn't perfect, its still an incredible achievement, so I would advise people to be kind to themselves and enjoy the process without getting too stressed about perfect topstitching or fit. That stuff just comes with practice ;) [caption id="attachment_1229" align="alignright" width="630"]Closet Case Patterns Morgan Boyfriend Jeans Closet Case Patterns New Morgan Boyfriend Jeans[/caption] Designed for non-stretch & selvedge denim, Morgan Boyfriend Jeans are engineered to flatter. Worn true to size, they are slim through the hip and thigh (although will relax considerably over the course of the day, as 100% cotton tends to do). They can also be worn sized down for a closer, more nostalgic fit, or sized up for an exaggerated boyfriend silhouette. Featuring a mid-rise, traditional five pocket construction, contoured waistband, tapered leg and button fly, Morgan fits snugly through the hip but relaxes and conforms to your curves with a little wear. Choose between a regular or cropped inseam, and add an optional leather waistband patch for a sly nod to designer denim.
